From the foster care system to becoming a trailblazing artist, entrepreneur, and philanthropist, Thuggizzle has built an empire rooted in purpose, passion, and love — for people, the planet, and dogs.
In this exclusive Dogopo.com feature, we dive into his story, the meaning behind his pitbull-inspired logo, and how his loyalty-driven mindset shapes everything he does.
Welcome, Thuggizzle! It’s great to have you on Dogopo.com! For readers meeting you for the first time, could you tell us a little about yourself — your journey as an artist, entrepreneur, and dog lover?
Thank you! I’m honored to be here. I’m Phillip Hodge, but most people know me as Thuggizzle — a rapper, entrepreneur, and philanthropist from San Antonio, Texas.
My journey started from humble beginnings; I grew up in the foster care system and group homes, and through those challenges, I learned resilience, faith, and purpose. Music became my therapy and my way to inspire others.
I built my brand from the ground up with Thuggizzle Music Group, my eco-friendly bottled water company Thuggizzle Water, and my nonprofit Thuggizzle Cares, which focuses on youth literacy and giving back to the community.
As for dogs — I’ve always had a strong bond with them. They’re loyal, protective, and full of heart, just like how I’ve had to be in my own life.

Your logo — a pitbull holding a mic — perfectly combines your love for dogs and hip-hop. What inspired that design, and what does it represent to you personally?
That logo tells my whole story in one image. The pitbull with the mic represents strength, loyalty, and voice — three things that define both dogs and my music.
Pitbulls have always been misunderstood, just like a lot of people from my background. But when you look deeper, they’re intelligent, loyal, and full of love.
The mic symbolizes expression and purpose — using your voice to rise above adversity. So, that logo is a symbol of how I turned pain into passion and how I use my platform to uplift others.
You’ve often spoken about your love for Pitbulls and Cane Corsos. What is it about these breeds that connects so deeply with you?
Both breeds carry themselves with confidence and courage. Pitbulls have this energy — they’re loyal to their people and have such a strong will to love and protect, even when the world doesn’t always see them fairly.
Cane Corsos are powerful but gentle giants. I connect with them because they remind me of myself — strong, protective, but at the same time, deeply caring.
I see a lot of myself in their loyalty and their fight to be understood.
As someone who came from the foster care system and built your own path, do you see any similarities between your story and the loyalty or resilience of Pitbulls?
Absolutely. I always say that Pitbulls and people like me come from the same story — judged before being understood.
When you grow up in foster care, you’re constantly proving your worth to people who don’t always believe in you. Pitbulls go through that same stigma.
But when you give them love and a chance, they show you their true heart. My life has been about breaking stereotypes and showing that love, loyalty, and purpose can come from even the hardest beginnings.
How do your dogs or your love for animals influence your music or creative mindset when you’re freestyling?
When I’m around my dogs, it’s pure peace and energy. They remind me to stay grounded, focused, and real.
I freestyle everything I record — no pen, no pad — and that takes trust and instinct, just like how dogs move off instinct and loyalty.
Being with my dogs gives me that calm focus where my creativity just flows naturally. They’re part of my rhythm, my inspiration, and even my healing process.

You’re not just an artist — you’re also an entrepreneur with Thuggizzle Water and a changemaker with your nonprofit Thuggizzle Cares. How do compassion and community tie into both your music and your mission?
Everything I do comes from compassion and giving back.
With Thuggizzle Water, we promote sustainability — it’s Appalachian Mountain Spring Water packaged in recyclable aluminum cans. It’s about doing good for people and the planet.
Through Thuggizzle Cares, I focus on youth programs like Thuggizzle Reads to Kids, Lil Phillip, and Make the Grade, which motivate children to love reading and stay in school.
My music, my business, and my nonprofit all connect — they’re about giving hope and showing that no matter where you come from, you can turn struggle into strength.
Pitbulls often face unfair stereotypes, just like many young people growing up in tough circumstances. How do you use your platform to challenge those perceptions — both in life and through your work?
I use my voice and visibility to rewrite the story. Whether it’s through my music, interviews, or my nonprofit work, I show the world that you can’t judge anyone — or any dog — by their past or by what people say about them.
Through Thuggizzle Cares, I reach out to youth who feel overlooked, and I remind them that they are capable of greatness.
Through my dogs, I show love and education — teaching people that Pitbulls are not dangerous; they’re loyal family members.
Both messages tie together: don’t stereotype what you don’t understand.
Finally, what’s next for you? Any new music, projects, or community initiatives we can look forward to? And will we see your dogs make an appearance in any future videos or campaigns?
Oh, definitely! I’ve got a lot coming.
My next music projects include more freestyles and visual albums, continuing the “100% Freestyle Str8 Off the Brain” legacy.
I’m also expanding Thuggizzle Water into more retail stores, hotels, and cruise lines, and pushing new Thuggizzle Cares programs across Texas.
And yes, you’ll absolutely see my dogs in future content! I plan to include them in upcoming music videos, Thuggizzle Water campaigns, and even literacy-themed children’s projects through Lil Phillip.
They’re part of my family and my brand, so expect to see them spreading that same message of love, strength, and loyalty that’s been at the heart of my story all along.
