Maudy wears many hats, but her most cherished role is being a dog parent. From first meeting Anubis Palar at a kennel in Jakarta to building a life rooted in routine and affection, she shares a story every dog lover will relate to.
Hey Maudy, welcome to Dogopo! To begin, can you please introduce yourself and also tell us your dog’s name and how the two of you first came into each other’s lives?
Hi Dr. Gulati, pleasure to meet you, and thank you so much for the opportunity to share my dog love story with Dogopo. My name is Maudy. I am an entrepreneur involved in several businesses in Indonesia, and I also work with the government in national disaster management under Badan Nasional Penanggulangan Bencana (the National Agency for Disaster Management). My work includes supplying medical kits, building temporary homes for people who have lost their houses, and coordinating essentials like tents, light towers, and beds. I am also active in social and political organisations.
I first met my baby, Anubis Palar, at one of the biggest kennels in Jakarta. I had wanted a big dog for years, especially after my two previous dogs (a Chihuahua and a super mini Pomeranian) were stolen. The moment I went inside Anubis’s cage and played with him, we bonded instantly. He stole my heart right away.
You’re a busy entrepreneur and deeply involved in social and political work. How do you balance your schedule while still making time for your dog?
I am a Cancer, and I am very structured and disciplined. I stick to routines and schedules. If my dog needs crate training, daily walks, or specific training sessions, I make sure it happens. I walk them early in the morning at 6 a.m. and again in the evening after work. Luckily, my office is next to my house, so I can visit and spend time with them anytime. I am a pet parent to one Doberman, two Siberian Huskies, one Shiba Inu mix, and I also have one street cat.
What was it about this dog breed that made you feel connected or inspired to bring one into your life?
Having a Doberman is not for everyone, especially when you have a Doberman puppy. Anubis is only 2.5 months old, and I knew the first year would be challenging with crate training, professional trainers, school, and potty training. But Anubis made everything feel easier. I fell in love with this breed because they are extremely intelligent, easy to train, very protective, and love being close and touched all the time. I truly enjoy that feeling.
How has your dog changed your daily routine or the way you see life? Has having a dog taught you something meaningful?
Having a dog brings more structure, activity, and balance into daily life. I deal with work pressure every day, and my dogs are a complete game changer. They teach me to stay calm, find peace of mind, stay active, and appreciate presence, love, and the simple joys of companionship.
Can you share a moment with your dog that always makes you smile or something unforgettable the two of you experienced together?
Our very first bonding moment always makes me smile. When we first met and I played with him inside his cage, I felt an instant connection. He was calm and playful at the same time. Now, wherever I go, he follows me around the house.
Many people say dogs can sense our emotions. Do you feel your dog understands you in that special way? How does your dog comfort you on difficult days?
Yes, absolutely. He curls up next to me every time I sit on the couch and follows me everywhere, even to the bathroom. His presence alone is comforting.
What kind of activities do you and your dog enjoy doing together – walks, training, adventures, or simply spending quiet time at home?
He loves training. Even though he is only three months old, he already enjoys learning commands like sit, touch, shake hands, and jump. Playing with a ball is also one of his favourite activities.
As someone with a powerful public presence, what message would you like to share about caring for and respecting dogs in everyday life?
Dogs teach us unconditional love, loyalty, and how to live in the moment. Having a dog truly makes your life feel whole.
