Formula 1 is no stranger to speed, glamour, and adrenaline, but recently, one tiny, four-legged companion has stolen a bit of the spotlight from the roaring engines. Meet Leo Leclerc, the miniature longhaired dachshund and the newest member of Charles Leclerc’s growing fanbase.
The Miniature Long-Haired Dachshund is a charming and courageous little dog. Its calm and affectionate nature makes it an ideal indoor and outdoor companion. Known for its silky, flowing coat and endearing personality, this variety is said to be gentler than its smooth and wire-haired cousins, yet it still carries the breed’s trademark independence and bold spirit. Originating in 15th-century Germany and brought to Britain by Prince Albert, Dachshunds were originally bred to hunt burrowing animals, using their short legs and loud bark to track prey underground.
Charles Leclerc, the Monegasque sensation racing for Scuderia Ferrari, is known for his precision on track, his dedication to the sport, and his heartfelt moments—such as dedicating his maiden Grand Prix win in Belgium to the late Anthoine Hubert. But away from the racetrack, Leclerc has a softer side that’s now shared with his adorable pup.
In April 2024, Leclerc welcomed Leo into his life, announcing the adoption with a wholesome Instagram post that melted hearts across the F1 community. With over three million likes, the reveal of the floppy-eared dachshund sent fans into a frenzy, instantly propelling Leo into the world of motorsport fame. Cared for by Leclerc and his girlfriend, Alexandra Saint Mleux, Leo has since become a familiar face on Instagram and in the F1 paddock.

From cozy shots in Leclerc’s Monte Carlo apartment to behind-the-scenes paddock appearances, Leo lives what can only be described as a glamorous dog life.
Leo’s appearances at race weekends have added an unexpected dose of charm to the high-stakes environment of Formula 1. Whether he’s perched next to Leclerc’s race boots or wagging his tail outside the Ferrari motorhome, Leo is quickly becoming a mascot in red.
For Leclerc, Leo represents more than just a companion. He’s a grounding presence amid the chaos of the F1 calendar, a little reminder of home, calm, and joy. Leclerc has long expressed his love for animals and is a known advocate for animal welfare, having previously partnered with the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation to support conservation and animal rights initiatives.
Leo’s arrival adds a personal layer to Leclerc’s public image, showing a racer who takes time to care, love, and nurture despite intense pressure and global fame.
