Scooby-Doo is about to appear as a real Great Dane for the first time in the franchise’s history. Netflix released a teaser for its new live-action series, Scooby-Doo: Origins, giving fans an early look at the famous dog before the show’s 2027 debut.
The teaser shows a floppy-eared Great Dane puppy exploring the woods before meeting a young Shaggy Rogers, played by Tanner Hagen. It ends with Shaggy holding his soon-to-be best friend, who wears his famous teal collar.
Scooby-Doo has been in animated shows, movies, and live-action films with CGI, but Scooby-Doo: Origins is the first time the dog will be played by a real Great Dane.
The upcoming series will explore the beginnings of Mystery Inc., taking viewers back to the group’s earliest days. Set during the final summer at camp for Shaggy and Daphne Blake, played by McKenna Grace, the story centres around a mysterious Great Dane puppy who may have witnessed a supernatural murder.

As the mystery unfolds, the duo joins forces with the intelligent, science-minded Velma Dinkley, portrayed by Abby Ryder Fortson, and the newcomer Fred Jones, played by Maxwell Jenkins. Together, the future members of Mystery Inc. find themselves pulled into a frightening case that threatens to uncover hidden secrets while testing their courage and friendship.
The series promises to blend mystery, suspense, and adventure while offering fans a fresh look at how one of television’s most beloved teams first came together. Alongside the young cast, actor Paul Walter Hauser has also joined the project in an undisclosed role.
Production on Scooby-Doo: Origins began in Atlanta in April, with an experienced creative team behind the scenes. The series is executive produced by Josh Appelbaum, Scott Rosenberg, Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Leigh London Redman, André Nemec, Jeff Pinkner, and Adrienne Erickson. Toby Haynes will direct the premiere episode and also serve as an executive producer.
For more than five decades, Scooby-Doo has remained one of the most recognizable franchises in entertainment. Since debuting in 1969, the mystery-solving Great Dane and his friends have starred in multiple television series, theatrical films, and dozens of animated movies.
With Scooby-Doo: Origins, Netflix is taking the franchise in a new direction while staying true to the characters that generations of fans have grown up loving. And if the teaser is any indication, the newest version of Scooby-Doo looks ready to win over audiences all over again.
