Zurich, Switzerland – Swiss authorities have successfully solved a high-stakes dognapping case involving two rare Bolonka dogs and a staggering ransom demand of 1 million Swiss francs (approximately $1.135 million).
The incident unfolded last week in Schlieren, near Zurich when a 59-year-old man returned home to find his beloved pets missing. In their place, he discovered a ransom note demanding a hefty sum for their safe return.
Rather than complying with the criminals’ demands, the unidentified dog owner promptly alerted the Zurich police, who launched an investigation into the theft.
Days later, on Thursday, law enforcement officers made a breakthrough in the case, arresting a 30-year-old Norwegian man at Zurich Airport. Authorities believe he played a key role in the dognapping.
Bolonka dogs, a toy breed originating from Russia, are known for their rarity and high value, often selling for thousands of dollars. The demand for such expensive pets has led to a rise in pet-related crimes worldwide.
Zurich police have not disclosed further details on the condition of the rescued dogs or whether additional suspects are involved. The investigation remains ongoing.
