Behind the powerhouse vocals and emotional lyrics of Morgan Myles lies a soft, soulful heart — and a curly-haired companion named Teddie who’s never far from her side. Whether she’s tearing up the stage, healing from heartbreak, or journaling on her porch, her beloved pup plays a starring role in her life’s most meaningful moments.
In this exclusive interview, the Voice alum and rising Americana star opens up about her deep bond with Teddie, the healing he brought after profound loss, and why being a dog mom keeps her grounded in a whirlwind world of music, touring, and fame. Equal parts hilarious and heartwarming, Morgan shares sweet rituals, road trip memories, and what kind of duet she and Teddie would sing if given the mic. (Spoiler alert: It would be a hit.)
Get ready to fall in love with “Ted the Celeb” and the woman who calls him her kindred soul.
Hi Morgan, welcome to Dogopo! Before we dive in, can you introduce your pup to our readers? What’s their name, breed, and a few things that make them extra special?
My pup is named “Teddie” aka “Theo-ADORABLE” – breed “gift from god”🤣 he’s a Lhasa-poo. I mean what doesn’t make him extra special? He’s very smart and has the funniest personality but also the kindest soul. He’s more human and animal… it’s crazy!
We know your life is filled with music, tours, and travel. How does your dog fit into your whirlwind schedule? Do they join you on the road?
Yes my schedule is crazy, my Dad travels on the road with me most times so my Mom will have Ted when we are gone. However we do take Ted on trips whenever we can, he’s been backstage and at meet and greets. I mean he is “Ted the Celeb” sooo…
Tell us the story of how you and your dog first met. Was it love at first sight?
Oh my goodness, short answer YES! Long story: our dog Riley (RIP 😔) had just passed away at 17, I was holding him in my arms when we had to put him down. It was just heartbreaking. Riley was our everything, so when he passed we just had a massive part of us missing… then Teddie came along a few weeks later and it just helped us so much in the healing process. On top of that My cousin (who was more like a brother to me) was in hospice at 33 years old for glioblastoma brain cancer and then a few weeks later passed away, on top of that I had just broken up with an extremely toxic ex. My mom said the only thing that put a smile on my face for months was my puppy. She would say you guys are kindred souls, we really were best friends. When they say therapy dogs- Ted was mine. Thank God he came to us when he did…

What’s one personality trait in your pup that totally surprised you, or reminds you of yourself?
I think it’s that we are both goofy and fun but at the same time we’re both really kind and comforting to everyone we come in contact with. It’s like we both have this need to make people happy.
What does a perfect day together look like for you and your dog when you’re not recording or performing?
Well first thing in the morning we snuggle- then we had to the porch to do gratitude journaling while I gave him his massage (of course). Then if he doesn’t get to the park before 10am – he’ll pout… then Ted’s gotta have his first nap. Then it’s all about the “afternoon activity” which hopefully consists of us out on the boat… basically he hates being left behind so he goes wherever we go lol!
Dogs have a way of grounding us. Has being a dog mom influenced your music, creativity, or even your approach to life?
Dogs remind us that the most important things in life are the simple things… to take a second and remember why we are here. I need that because I get so busy and then so worn out and my favorite thing is to just have a day with my dog and that’s because it’s so peaceful, they show you unconditional love. I think that’s hard to find a lot of the times and dogs give us that feeling.

Do you have any favorite rituals or routines with your pup—like a morning walk playlist or a bedtime cuddle tradition?
Yes Teddie has a strict routine that he makes my parents and I follow LOL! “it’s all about Ted” is one thing that he got into (still don’t know why…) but every time we are headed back to the house when we’re out on the lake he has to have a water bottle which he then runs up and back on the boat til we dock. It’s hilarious. I’m like “what is going on in that brain?”
What’s one funny or heart-melting moment that you’ll always remember with your dog?
I was on The Voice two years ago and when I got to the semi-finals my parents drove all the way from Nashville to LA with Ted. I bawled when I saw Ted, I snuck him into the hotel. I was so homesick at that point- it was like a slow motion movie scene when we were reunited lol!
There’s so much love in adopting or caring for a dog. What would you say to people who are still unsure about getting a pet or think they’re too busy?
I think having a pet will change you for the better, it forces you to care for something else besides yourself. But most importantly don’t adopt a pet and not provide a safe nurturing home if you aren’t ready for the responsibility.

And finally… if your dog could sing a duet with you, what kind of song would it be, and what would the title be called?
I feel like the song that comes to mind is “Best Friend” by Queen / if it was an original song… I could write a whole album about Ted lol!
